Used For
This medicine is used to reduce the frequency of attacks of chest pain. This medicine will not stop an attack that has already started because it works slowly.
Do’s and Dont’s

Do’s

Take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor.
You must take this medicine every day in order to prevent chest   pains.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is   time for the next scheduled dose.
For best results, take this medicine with a full glass of water, on   an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals).
Swallow the pills whole if you are taking an extended-release form   of this medicine.

Dont’s
Do not take double doses. If you are not sure of what to do if you   miss a dose, or if you miss more than one dose, contact your   doctor.
While taking this medicine, do not take sildenafil (Viagra). Using   these medicines together may cause severe or life-threatening low   blood pressure.
Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor's approval.   You may have to reduce your dosage gradually to avoid more   chest pain.
Do not crush or break pills. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you   if you have an extended-release form of this medicine.

Caution

Cause Headache: You may have a headache for a short time  after you take a dose of this medicine. It is a sign that the   medicine is working. If you try to eliminate the headaches by   reducing your dosage, you will reduce the effectiveness of the   medicine. To relieve these headaches without affecting this   medicine, you may take aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Dizziness: You may feel dizzy or faint when you get up quickly after sitting or lying down. Getting up slowly may help.

Females of childbearing age: Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. While taking this medicine,   do not breast-feed without discussing with your doctor.

Likely Side Effects
Your medicine may cause some unwanted side effects. Some of them may be very serious. Some side effects may disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that persist or get worse
Serious Side Effects (report to your doctor immediately): Severe headache, dry mouth, rash, blurred vision.

Other Side Effects: Dizziness, short headache, flushing, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting.

Likely Drug Interactions

When you take this medicine with other medicines, the ways in which the medicines work can change. Also, using these medicines together might cause harmful side effects.


Consult your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
(Sectral), atenolol (Tenormin), esmolol (Brevibloc), (Zebeta),   pindolol (Visken), metoprolol (Lopressor, (Corgard), sotalol   (Betapace), timolol (Blocadren
Such as diltiazem (Cardizem), felodipine (Plendil), (Cardene), and   verapamil (Calan, Isoptin,)
Ergot medicines such as dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45),   ergotamine (Ergomar), ergonovine and methylergonovine
Phenothiazines
Sildenafil (Viagra). Using these medicines together is life threatening.
Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this medicine
