Prof S.Thanikachalam Visionaries
build institutions. Prof. S Thanikachalam, Vice-Chancellor of the
Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC), is
one of them. A leading cardiologist in India, he is the spirit behind
the Cardiac Care Centre (CCC) of SRMC. In the realm of academics, the professor has taught 37 long years at the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) in Chennai, Chingelput Medical College, the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, the Madras Medical College and the Sri Ramachandra Medical College (SRMC), producing a generation of exceptionally qualified doctors. He has established cardiology departments at the MMC, the KMC, the Kasturba Hospital for Women and, most recently, at the SRMC. All these centers have rendered yeoman service to society and stand testimony to the professor’s contributions. In addition, he has contributed to other national and international medical schools as visiting faculty. To doctoral students, the professor has been an exceptional guide. The professor has served various medical societies in top-level positions. Further, he has been an expert member on various committees – of the government and other institutions. as cardiology examiner, setting high standards. In the sphere of research, the professor has studied critical issues with width and depth that have few parallels. He continues to research new issues, in truly path breaking mould. The professor has published and presented a number of scientific papers, abstracts and co-authored a book. All are acclaimed for their scholarliness and have enriched medical literature. Public education has always had a special place in the professor’s heart. In his quest to spread the light of knowledge and empower people, the professor has given ample attention to all media. Through print, radio, television, public forums, lectures and camps, the professor has educated with a rare ability. In recognition
of his multifaceted service, awards galore have come the professor’s

J. S. N. Murthy, M.D (Int. Med), DNB (Cardio). Having done more than 26000 Procedures with extensive experience in performing PTCA’s& PTMC’s, (more than 3000) and more than 1200 pacemker implantations inclusive of single, AV sequential pacing and few AICD implants his area of speciality is obvious. Also Dr. Murthy has attended several International Interventional workshop and Conferences as a delegate and faculty and has a staggering 26 years of experience in Cardiology. |

M. Jayarajah, M.D(Int. Med) D.M (Cardio). Prof. of cardiology Dr. Jayarajah finished his MBBS from Govt. Stanley Medical College, Chennai in 1976 and went on to complete his M.D(Internal Medicine ) from Stanley Medical College in 1981. He then proceeded to obtain his D.M in Cardiology from the Madras Medical College, Chennai in 1985. His areas of Specialty include both invasive and non-invasive cardiology, primarily Trans-esophageal echocardiography. He has a special interest in public education through mass media on the preventive aspects of heart disease. |

Dr.
Ashamoorthy M.D(Int. Med) D.M (Cardio). Professor of cardiology Dr.Ashamoorthy is one among the senior consultants in cardiology at the Cardic Care Centre, SRMC & RI. Her deep interest in non invasive cardiology namely cardiac ultrasound is well known. Her areas of expertise include Trans-Thorasic, Trans-Esophagial, Fetal and Intra-Operative Echocardiograms. She is also involved in applied Echocardiography especially in the field of dotrutamine stress studies and in peripheral vascular studies. She is a member of many National & International organizations and has more than 25 years of teaching experience in cardiology. |

T. R. Muralidharan, M.D(Int. Med) D.M (Cardio). Associate. Prof in cardiology Dr. T.R. Muralidharan completed his MBBS and MD (Int. Med) from Stanley Medical College, Chennai and went on to earn a DM in cardiology from Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1995. He has been actively involved in teaching and practicing cardiology over the past 9 years and is equally versatile in both invasive and non invasive cardiology. Having an keen interest in Electro-Physiological studies he is currently involved in developing an Electrophysiology unit in our institution. |

M. S. Ranjit MD., DCH., Fellowship in Paed. Cardiology A paediatrician by training, Completed M.D., Paediatrics in 1986. He was trained in paediatric Cardiology in 1988-1990 at the Royal children’s Hospital, Melbourne Australia. Where he did a full fellowship in paediatric Cardiology. He has been working as a full time exclusive paediatrics Cardiologist in India from 1991. His basic areas of specialty are Neonatal Cardiology, Echocardiography, Fetal Echocardiography and non-device interventions. |

Dr. M. Ramesh M.B.B.S., M.D., D.N.B (Medicine) Associate Prof. of Med (in Cardiology) Dr.M.Ramesh finished his MD & DNB in medicine from the Kilpauk Medical College Chennai in 1994. He has been actively involved in patients Care, Teaching & Research over the last 10 years. He has been a integral part of many Multi-centric Trails such as HERO-2, Tedisimill, Sesquifumarate(atrial fibrillation trail), the CREATE study and the CREATE registry to name just a few. . Accredited with several Publications and Presentations, he is currently focusing his attention in critical cardiac care. |

did his basic medicine from Madras Medical College, post graduation
from Kasturba Medcal College and post Doctoral degree in Cardiology
from Sri Ramachandra Medical College. Further obtained a fellowship
in interventional cardiology at France. He also has to
his credit of authoring a Chapter on Bifurcation angioplasty in Euro
PCR course-book and has publications on bifurcation lesions and on
Sirolimus eluting stents. He has presented several research papers
in several cardiological societies including the Trans-Catheter Therapeutics
(TCT), Washington, American Heart Association (AHA) and American College
of Cardiology (ACC) U.S.A. |

K. R. Balakrishnan Professor and Head of Cardio vascular surgery, graduated in 1976 from JIPMER, Pondicherry . He subsequently trained in General Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and in Cardiovascular Surgery at the KEM hospital in Bombay. He then had advanced training in cardiovascular surgery, with special emphasis on congenital heart repairs at the Green lane hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, under Sir Brian Barratt-Boyes. Later he worked with Dr. Albert Starr, in Portland, Oregon at the Oregon Health Services University and designed a new model of a prosthetic heart valve. He subsequently, returned to India and headed the Cardiovascular surgery services at the Railway Headquarters hospital, Madras before moving Sri Ramachandra Hospital in September 1994 to start a new cardiovascular program. Today he is an authority in a spectrum of surgical corrections ranging from Complex Intracardiac repairs to off pump coronary revascularizations. Few can compare to his skill in conduit surgeries and switch procedures. In addition to cardiac surgery Dr. Balakrishnan has a keen interest in the use of computer applications in patient management protocols and in the use of the internet for the exchange of professional information. Dr. Balakrishnan
has also been involved in a lot of research activities, which include
the dynamic analysis of the aortic valve using a finite element model.
He is currently focusing on myocardial cell culture techniques to
treat patients with heart failure and endothelial cultures for creating
arterial blood vessels. |

Dr.Richard Saldhana
M.B.B.S., M.S. (GS), MCh (Thor. & CVS), DNB (Thor. & CVS) Professor in Cardio Thoracic Surgery Graduated in 1980 from St John’s Medical College, Bangalore. Completed MS in General Surgery from Bangalore. He started his cardiac surgical residency at the Head Quarters Southern Railway hospital, Perambur in 1983 and subsequently completed his MCh & DNB in cardio thoracic surgery from CMC, Vellore in 1987. He further spent a year as an overseas fellow in cardiac surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney Australia which is a premier transplants units. He has held senior consultant posts in the Madras Medical Mission, Chennai, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore and St John’s Medical College, Bangalore. His interests are in adult cardiac surgery, transplantation, thoracic and vascular surgery. |

EXPERIENCE. : Has worked as Senior House surgeon at Government Medical
College. Later joined as assistant professor of General Surgery at the
Academy for Medical Sciences, Kannur, Kerala. Served as Assistant professor in the department of cardio thoracic surgery at Kovai Medical Centre COIMBATORE from February 1998 until October 2000. During this period assisted about 1000 adult cardiac cases which included valves surgeries, general thoracic surgeries including lung resections, mediastinal surgeries and emergency vascular operations. Was in-charge of ICU which was a 10 bedded ICU.
